World Championships in Shoe Shining and Shoe Patina 2019 – The finalists

World Championships in Shoe Shining 2019 finalists

    Alexey Vrublevskiy, Russia.

One of the pioneers of shoe shining in Russia, who has been part in introducing the Russian shoe shining championships Shoesing Awards. Alexey Vrublevskiy’s shoe has obviously an amazing spit shine on the toe, but also a nice depth in the shine really making the classic plain cap oxford stand out.

    Caleb Malinowski, USA.

The first American to make it to the final. Caleb is working at the menswear store Sid Mashburn in Texas. His sublime shine has that perfect transition between the high shine toe cap and the rest of the shoe, highlighting the curves of the shoe perfectly.

    Yuta Sugimura, Japan.

Owner of the shoe shine bar Y’s Shoeshine in the city Shizuoka, a true professional in the field. A well worn pair of tan oxfords has received a super shine where both the toes and heels glow. This is how you want your shoes to look when they come at age.

World Championships in Shoe Patina 2019 finalists

    Stephane Villette, France.

A “grand old man” in the world of shoe patina, who has worked with painting shoes since 1994, today among other things paint the bespoke shoes of Stephane Jimenez. Here Stephane Villette shows off a relatively muted patina, which has given the shoes a depth you can almost drown in.

    Andrzej Olender, Poland.

Runs the largest shoe patina and glacage service of Poland, The Shine. His qualification pic is of a pair of derbys with a gorgeous marbled brown patina. Even if you look up-close it looks very natural, great work.

    Samuel Norsworthy, England.

If Villette is a patina veteran, Sam is a rookie. He started working at Gaziano & Girling just a couple of years ago, where he has been extremely dedicated and learned closing uppers, clicking, painting patina and shining shoes, from the masters working at the company. This single monk has beautiful, living transitions from the light brown in the middle of the shoe up to the dark toe.

Le quedó bien el color...también ayuda el pie del cliente. Que en ese caso es bastante agraciado.

    World Championships in Shoemaking

    Tomado de:
    http://shoegazing.se/english/2019/03...ing/#more-8223

(...) As always, I expect a debate on wearability, I want you to note that this is not a part of the criteria (read more in the Call for competition), we only state a size EU42/UK8 in length. For this contest, the craftsmanship of the shoemaking (not lastmaking/fit since it’s extremely difficult to solve a contest judging fit) is in focus, and we see shoes that can be viewed more as concept cars, for example, where the maker creates a more artistic piece meant to showcase the craftsmanship possible. (...)

    Daniel Wegan, 1st place

The Swede, working for Gaziano & Girling in England, made a shoe where everything is made by hand, with hand stitched upper at 21 spi (stitches per inch) and sole stitch of 25 spi. A super slim waist and horseshoe heel makes it spectacular, and the execution was super impressive.

    Christophe Corthay, 2nd place

The French master who nowadays run Tranchet Vif, returned from last years 8th place with an even more impressive shoe. Very neat making, with the braided sole stitching as the cherry on the cake. Also the specially made heel is extraordinary.

    Eiji Murata, 3rd place

Japanese maker Eiji Murata, the man behind the brand Main d’Or, has an excellent reputation, with this shoe he shows why. This compared to some others is nothing special when it comes to the look and style, it’s actually quite similar to his regular customer work, just with tighter sole stitching and even narrower waist. What really stands out here is the flawless making, both the closing of the uppers, the bottom making and finishing is so perfectly made that it looks like it could have been drawn in a computer.
